Sergeant Jim Gourley



For the past 24 years, Jim has proudly served his community as a member of a major municipal police agency in Canada. His knowledge and experience have been earned as a Patrol Officer, a Canine Unit Dog Handler, a Professional Standards (Internal Affairs) Detective, a Real Time Operations Centre Duty Staff Sergeant, and as a Sergeant of the Canine Unit. He recognizes that he has been fortunate to have developed a unique skill set as an accomplished leader, allowing him to embrace various types of conflict respectfully and honestly.

Over his career, Jim has been the recipient of many formal awards and acknowledgements. Most recently, he was Awarded the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, and he was the co-winner of the 2022 Chief’s Leadership Award. He is a contributing member on various boards including; Canadian Police Canine Association, Health and Safety Committee, Driver Safety Compliance Liaison, and in various volunteer positions in his hometown. 

Jim enjoys his active lifestyle as a person who loves to ski, play ice hockey, watch baseball, and long adventurous hikes with his family and their three dogs.
